Allow
us to present the largest and northernmost island
on the Adriatic Sea, Krk.
Due
to its geographical position, Krk has always been
of great interest to travellers. Situated at the
45th parallel north, and is also the closest island
to the countries of central and northern Europe.
The climate is sub-Mediterranean, marked by long,
hot summers and mild winters.
The
impressive "Krk Bridge", Krk Airport
and ferry lines towards the neighbouring islands
of Cres and Rab, make the island easily accessible.

Life
has long existed on the island, seen in
the numerous cultural monuments, which the
residents proudly display to their visitors.
Among
the most well known are the island fortresses
in Krk, Omisalj and Dobrinj, with the remnants
of the urban stone city cores, and which
today represent the town centres.

However, the most valuable monument on the island
is certainly the Bascanska ploca (Baska plate),
the oldest monument of the Glagolithic script,
dating back to 1100.
In
the modern age, the island of Krk has developed
as a modern tourist destination, and the small
island towns have become well known tourism centres.
